Piedra del Mar
The image and the name of Piedra del Mar are inspired by Captain Nemo's search for the sunken treasure in the Battle of Rande in the s. XVIII.
In “ Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea ”, Jules Verne recounts how the Nautilius plowed through the waters of the RíasBaixas looking for the famous French gems to finance his trip. On the Piedra del Mar label, an illustration of a diver refers to the tireless quest of Nautilus divers for chests laden with gold coins and precious stones. Undoubtedly, the reigning variety in this Denomination of Origin is the Albariño. In 1975 there were 200 cultivated hectares, while today there are already more than 4,000 hectares. This variety reaches its maximum qualitative expression in the climate and soil typical of this area. It comes in the form of rather small clusters and has a great sugar production capacity, exceeding the alcohol volume by 12%. Another of the exceptional characteristics of the Albariño is that it maintains a richness in acids that very few varieties achieve in the world, togeth- er with a richness in aromatic and sapid components that makes its wines very identifiable.
